Performing our Rebellion
One of the main uses of the word Uncool is a cynical anti-cool. When hipsters deem cool to be mainstream, conventional or capitalist, imperialist, patriarchal, homophobic or racist, they often defect from the cool tribe and create another one in the same mold. It’s still about the private performance of rebellion, rebellion for its own sake.
One of the directions I want this conversation to go is moving beyond merely rejecting cool, to actually embracing relationship. What’s the difference between rejecting the cool mainstream, and actually living beyond cool?
